A man, who was travelling from Puerto Rico to Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, crash landed his single engine Cirrus 22 aircraft in the mangroves near Mayaguana on Saturday, officials said yesterday.
The Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) reported that there was an engine malfunction, which led the pilot to crash land.
Police said the pilot, the only person onboard, landed in mangroves half a mile off the coast of Mayaguana shortly before 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Once the craft came to a halt, the pilot realized that the area was inaccessible and made a request to the United States Coast Guard for help, the AAIA said.
The Coast Guard responded and rescued the pilot. He had no injuries.
The plane, US registration number N675N, departed Jose Aponte da la Torre Airport in Puerto Rico.
