Three American tourists who appeared to flout an order closing beaches on New Providence during the Independence Holiday have been acquitted.
Police arrested Rana Mohamed Kenaway, Miriam Mohamed and Ikrane Kanane at their Airbnb on Wednesday morning after a video of them scaling a fence to Cabbage Beach went viral. But the case took a surprising twist when the women said police officers “turned their backs” as they accessed the beach.
The prime minister ordered beaches on New Providence, Paradise Island and Grand Bahama closed over the holiday weekend to residents and visitors.
