Nine Cabinet ministers sworn in

Nine Cabinet ministers were sworn in today by Governor General Sir Cornelius A. Smith during a ceremony at Baha Mar today.

Glenys Hanna-Martin, MP-elect for Englerston, was sworn in as minister of education, technical and vocational training.

Wayne Munroe, QC, MP-elect for Freetown, was sworn in as minister of national security.

Senator Ryan Pinder was sworn in as attorney general and minister of legal affairs.

Fred Mitchell, MP-elect for Fox Hill, was sworn in as minister of foreign affairs and public service.

Alfred Sears, MP-elect for Fort Charlotte, was sworn in as minister of works and utilities.

Jomo Campbell, MP-elect for Centreville, was sworn in as minister of state for legal affairs.

Senator Michael Halkitis was sworn in as minister of economic affairs and leader of government business in the Senate.

Dr. Michael Darville, MP-elect for Tall Pines, was sworn in as minister of health and wellness.

Clay Sweeting, MP-elect for South and Central Eleuthera, was sworn in as minister of agriculture, marine resources and Family Island affairs.

Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis said the newly appointed ministers are ready to deliver on the promise of a new day.

“We take office facing not one enormous crisis but several,” he said. “The severity of the fiscal crisis cannot be overstated and our economic crisis is intertwined with our health crisis.

“…I want to be clear, we are not here to tinker at the edges of these problems. We are here to meet them head on. The deputy prime minister and I share a bias in favor of both innovation and action.”

Davis said the ministers “are the initial members of a Cabinet which will reflect the breadth and depth of the competencies and characteristics of our team; experience combined with innovation; expertise combined with a willingness to see things anew; integrity and a strong sense of purpose”.

He added that they received their appointments because of their determination to get things done.
