No one makes a fool of God

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. – Galatians 6:7

Apart from COVID-19 upending normal events in people’s lives, it has also spawned a “war” in which many are blaming the other for what is wrong and what is not right. In other words, what you are doing is wrong, and what you are doing is not right, but cannot say why what is wrong is not right.

What I have come to realize is that COVID-19 does not give a hoot who you are, what you are, nationality, color, creed, your belief, prophet, priest or king, sinner or saint. COVID-19 is on the loose for a victim. Like the Bible story of the house that was well-furnished but empty, the evil one went and found seven of his ilk and left that house in a sad state of affairs.

Paul begins the fifth of the six chapters of the Book of Galatians by encouraging the saints to preserve their freedom, as Christ through his death, burial and resurrection set them free. Stand then, as free people and do not allow this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through the bond of love.

COVID-19 is upon us to give us the opportunity to become our brother’s keepers rather than killers. If we bang up, bruise, rape, rob, lie and set snares and traps for each other, then we are only going to forfeit the blessings that God has in store for ourselves and our children’s children.

This is no time to knowingly use our brothers and sisters as pawns in the hand of lost opportunities and privileges. This is no time for dishonesty, deceit, lies and excuses. This is no time to call right wrong and wrong right, and as someone put it in the language of our culture, if they like they will lie for you, and if they hate they will lie on you. Indeed, this is the time for truth, justice and giving those who are due their rewards – not to withhold, but give it cheerfully.

This is the time for kindness. The actions of the flesh go against the grain of God’s design. This is the time for the true worshippers to worship the Father in spirit and in truth. We cannot continue to live rebellious lives and expect godly rewards. There’s the parable of the rich ruler who became so obsessed with power and might that he overlooked the riches of his kingdom one night and said that on the morrow he would demolish and build bigger and better barns.

God called him a fool for his “4B” ego – build, bigger, better, barns. But God used one B and told him he would take away his breath. Wow! We cannot play games with God and think that he sees, hears, and knows not!

The blame game is over, so is nonsense, trickery, scheming, conniving and pulling rabbits out of top hats. Every tub will stand on its own bottom.

Finally, in the sixth chapter, Paul is giving us the prescription for a better people, hence a better nation. My friends, the time has come – if someone is caught in any kind of wrongdoing, those of you who are spiritual should set him right, but you must do it in a gentle way, and keep an eye on yourselves that you will not be tempted, too.

Help carry one another’s burdens, and in this way, you will obey the law of Christ. If you think you are something when you really are nothing, you are only deceiving yourself. You should each judge your own conduct. If it is good, then you can be proud of what you yourself have done, without having to compare it with what someone else has done. Each of you have to carry your own load.

Do not deceive yourselves. No one makes a fool of God. You will reap exactly what you plant. If you plant in the field of your natural desires, you will gather the harvest of death by any means necessary. If you plant in the field of the spirit, from the harvest you will gather the harvest of a life well lived and eternal life. Let us not become tired of doing good.

So, what is in your garden of life?
