One man died and another was injured when an aircraft crashed in waters shortly after take-off from South Bimini International Airport last night, police said.
According to initial reports, the aircraft, which was headed to Florida, departed around 10 p.m. and crashed a short time later.
“Officers, along with [residents] of Bimini went to the crash site some 200 to 300 yards east of the South Bimini International Airport runway,” police said in a statement.
“There they extracted from waters two males, one who was alert, but appeared to be severely injured and in pain and the other who… appeared lifeless.”
Police said both victims were transported to Bimini Clinic. One of the men was pronounced dead by the local doctor.
Both men are believed to be citizens of the United States.
