Queen of Soca Alison Hinds has joined with the Zonta Club of New Providence’s (ZCNP) campaign to “Say No” to violence against women and girls with 16-Days of Activism, culminating in a live virtual performance for the organization’s 11th Annual Wine Dinner.
The Barbadian soca star is set to rock the virtual stage – along with Bahamian singer Julien Believe – in the annual fundraiser event on Saturday, December 5, that augments ZCNP’s scholarship funds for young women.
“No woman should ever have to live in fear of violence,” said Hinds. “I am really pleased to be a part of this upcoming event. The Zonta Club of New Providence is all about empowerment – the empowerment of women and girls and making sure women’s rights are fully recognized as human rights.
“Women’s empowerment is something that has been very, very close to my heart for a number of years. It stands to reason that this is something I definitely wanted to come on board with.”
Part proceeds from the live auction and raffle prizes will be dedicated to the ZCNP’s Betty Kelly Kenning Endowment Fund at the University of The Bahamas. The meal will be prepared by Chef Emmanuel “Manny” Gibson and delivered to participants’ door by Kraven.
Guests have three tiers of menu selections. They include:
• The Classic for a donation of $150 for a four-course meal: a cup of butternut squash soup with Johnny cake scones, chef Manny’s garden salad drizzled with vinaigrette dressing. Entrée choices include rack of lamb and grouper duo or braised short ribs served with mashed potatoes, asparagus and exotic veggies. Desert is a serving of guava cheesecake and one bottle of wine or sparkling cider. This level includes three complimentary raffle tickets. The vegan alternative is seared grouper.
• The Specialty, for a donation of $175 includes a large charcuterie board with a combination of sushi rolls, and artisan cheeses and meats, harmonized with exotic fruits, paired dips and crackers. Dessert is a serving of guava cheesecake. The paired beverage is the choice of two bottles of wine or two bottles of sparkling cider. This level also includes three complimentary raffle tickets.
• The Medallion, for a donation of $200 is a five-course meal: charcuterie and sushi combo appetizer; butternut squash soup with Johnny cake scones and chef Manny’s garden salad with vinaigrette dressing; a choice of entrée which includes rack of lamb and seared grouper duo or braised short ribs with mashed potatoes, asparagus and exotic vegetables. Dessert is a serving of guava cheesecake. The paired beverage is the choice of two bottles of wine or two bottles of sparkling cider. This includes five complimentary raffle tickets. The pescatarian alternative is a seared grouper.
Patrons can opt out of the meal and wine options and enjoy the evening’s entertainment, for a $75 donation. This access allows participants to bid in the Live Auction and purchase additional raffle tickets. Patrons may select the “donations” button to donate the $75 “Access only” value and to purchase raffle tickets via the auction link.
This weekend’s virtual affair will be the premier of ZCNP’s popular wine dinner on a virtual platform, starting at 6:30 pm – 9:30 p.m. There will be also be a silent auction. Zonta has sought to bring awareness to the issue of violence in The Bahamas. The orange hand and orange bows around town are the symbols that represent activism to stop the violence against women, children, and stop all forms of violence.
The Zonta Club of New Providence has been on the forefront of “saying no to violence” and does so all year round, because violence – or the pervasive threat of violence – affects women and girls daily. Zonta International is a leader in the international campaign to end violence against women and girls.
