Cash N’Go has become one of the first digital payment providers to become fully integrated with The Central Bank of The Bahamas’ new digital currency Sand Dollar.
Cash N’Go Business Development Coordinator Douglas Rolle said through the app you can apply and be approved within minutes for a Sand Dollar wallet, as well as transfer funds back and forth between your Sand Dollar account and Cash N’Go mobile wallet.
“What this means is that we’re on the cutting edge of innovation and catering to the Bahamian people, particularly those who are on the outer islands where banking facilities are leaving or where they have limited access,” he said.
“We really want to assist and cater to the market of the underbanked and the unbanked and that’s why we view this new feature as a breakthrough in the digital arena.”
Cash N’Go has already onboarded more than 6,000 user accounts. Rolle said the platform is growing by the hundreds every month.
“If you look at banking, it’s forcing you to go digital. So we are finding that Bahamians are transitioning more toward digital payments. They’re used to the online digital movement. When we had lockdowns earlier in the year, we experienced long lines and clients were very interested in what alternatives we had to serve them,” he said.
“They asked and we listened and we unveiled the Cash N’Go mobile wallet. We have persons asking for the services and now our mobile growth has been jumping in folds as time goes. Every month we onboard another 500 or 600 or 700. That has been going since the start of this year. Persons want the service.”
Users who download the app can pay all of their utility bills, including Bahamas Power and Light, Bahamas Telecommunications Company, Water and Sewerage Corporation, Cable Bahamas, Grand Bahama Power Company and Grand Bahama Utility, as well as top up both Aliv or BTC postpaid and prepaid accounts.
Rolle said there is no limit to the plans Cash N’Go has for its new platform, adding that the company is “trying to own the digital payment environment in the country”.
“You can pay your insurance premiums at BAF. We have a new gift card feature, where you are allowed to purchase gift cards from Amazon, Walmart, Nike, Best Buy, etc. What we want to do is get local vendors on that,” Rolle said.
“We want you to be able to get a gift card to Kelly’s, we want you to get a gift card to Super Value, we want you to get a gift card to even small merchants because we understand the difficulties of them penetrating the market. Through the app, what we’re really pushing is mobile payments, meaning if you’re in our network as a merchant that says sells shoes, you can have persons pay using their Cash N’Go wallet. We want Cash N’Go to be in every business, big and small. Anyone who is doing anything needs a Cash N’Go wallet.”
