Mullings coordinates relaunch of STARS Programme

The Ministry of Education Scholarship and Educational Loan Division’s Student-Athlete Resources and Support (STARS) Programme has re-opened its online sign-up form via scholarshipsbahamas.com/stars. The sign-up form will remain open until November 30, 2020. Student-athletes, their parents, high school and club coaches, guidance counselors, federation executives and college coaches are encouraged to visit the website to learn more about the program and the criteria for joining, and to sign up. The program will officially begin on Monday, November 16, and run through June 2021.

STARS Programme Coordinator Jurelle Mullings said, “This year, we have revamped the STARS Programme, adapting to the online climate of learning with the primary goal of connecting qualified student-athletes throughout The Bahamas with scholarship opportunities.”

In order to meet the program’s goal, Mullings has been communicating extensively with college coaches who have an interest in recruiting student-athletes from The Bahamas and organizing an online platform that will be used to assist student-athletes with connecting to them.

The STARS Programme provides Bahamian high school student-athletes with the tools they need to extend their educational and athletic experience beyond high school, to the collegiate level and beyond. In alignment with the mission of the Scholarship and Educational Loan Division, the program connects qualified Bahamian high school student-athletes with transformative scholarship opportunities to further their education by extensively communicating, networking and building relationships with students, parents, high school coaches, guidance counselors and college coaches worldwide.

Since it started in 2017, the program has served over 600 student-athletes from the ninth to 12th grades throughout The Bahamas, connecting over 35 student-athletes with nearly $2.5 million in college scholarships.

For more information on the program, interested parties are asked to visit the website www.bahamastars.com or follow the program on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or Twitter @BahamaStars.
