Coleby is B1 Player of the Week

Bahamian professional basketball player Kadeem Coleby notched a double-double as he dropped 30 points and pulled in 15 rebounds for his Akita Happinets to come away with Japan’s B1 League Player of the Week honor for Round 10 action last week.

The center did that feat in an away 89-86 loss against Sun Rockers Shibuya in mid-week action in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Happinets.

His points and rebound totals in that game were game highs as the Sun Rockers had no answer for the Bahamian big man. He was one of three Happinets to score in double figures as Takatoshi Furukawa finished with 19 points and Takuya Nakayama scored 10 points.

In his 34 minutes on the court, Coleby was brilliant as he finished the game shooting 11-for-14 from the field to shoot 78.6 percent. He took 13 shots from the free-throw line and connected on eight of them. On the glass, he created many second chances for his team as he grabbed nine offensive boards. He finished with six defensive rebounds.

He was also disruptive on the defensive side of the ball, finishing with two steals and two blocks.

The Sun Rockers jumped out to a 24-19 lead in the first quarter. They continued to play tough in the second quarter to outscore Coleby and the Happinets 27-22 to go into the half with a 51-41 lead.

Coleby went off in the third quarter, scoring 12 of his 30 points to cut the lead down to 76-69. The Happinets outscored Shibuya 17-13 in the final quarter but it was not enough as Shibuya held on to win the game.

In the previous two games, Coleby finished with 11 and 14 points in back-to-back wins against Yokahama B-Corsairs.

On the season, the big man is averaging 15.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, a steal and 1.2 blocks per game.

Next up for his Happinets is a back-to-back home matchup this Saturday and Sunday against Osaka Evessa in Akita, Japan. The Saturday game is set to get underway at 6:05 p.m. Japan time while the Sunday game will start at 2:05 p.m. Japan time.
