Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis announced the resumption of repatriation flights to New Providence this week, following a week-long suspension.
Minnis said there will be two flights – one of Thursday and the other on Saturday.
He said a flight to Grand Bahama will be accommodated if necessary. Both flights will leave from Fort Lauderdale.
Minnis said those seeking to return home during this exercise may book directly through Bahamasair.
He said those who already a have a ticket on the airline should call and make updated flight arrangements.
The government suspended repatriation flights and launched an investigation after a man who tested positive for COVID-19 was allowed to board the flight to Grand Bahama last Friday.
The man, whose name was not on the manifest, was advised that he could not travel.
Minnis said the system has since been streamlined to avoid a similar occurrence.
On Friday, Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, advisor to the prime minister, said the Grand Bahama man may have had a false positive.
Health officials reported that the same man tested negative after arriving in The Bahamas.
Dahl-Regis said the lab where the man was tested in Florida is “not the same level” as the CAP-accredited national reference lab in The Bahamas.
Bahamians and residents trapped aboard and wishing to return to The Bahamas must first test negative for COVID-19.
