For some, this is a very tough time as they have been laid off and do not know what the future holds. To do its part, the New Providence Basketball Association (NPBA) has stepped up and decided to give back to its players, coaches, referees and officials by distributing care packages to them.
This will take place at City of Praise on Cowpen Road, opposite Island Luck, tomorrow afternoon from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
President of the NPBA James Price said that he and his executives know that it is a difficult time in the country and persons are unemployed.
“We know these are hard times right now and plenty people are out of jobs. We decided that we would take some packages and put them together. It can probably feed a family of four for maybe five days,” Price said.
He continued: “It is very important because when you are down and out, every little could help. If someone comes to your rescue when you are down and out, you realize you have a ray of hope.”
Price heard that the players are excited and added that he is looking forward to them coming out and picking up the packages.
He reiterated that the NPBA has enough packages for the players, coaches and officials.
The NPBA has set a schedule for teams to pick up their care packages.
From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., players from Abaco Strong, Asphalt Maintenance Pirates, BIBT Great Whites and Breezes High Flyers Division I and II are to pick up their packages.
The 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. time slot is set aside for players from the Commonwealth Bank Giants, Discount Distributors Rockets, Ft. Charlotte Defenders and Island Dimension Wolverines.
After those teams, the JD’s Seafood Shockers, Leno Regulators Divisions I and II and the Patmor Rebels will be allowed to pick up their packages from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Sports Center Elites, Sun Oil Rockets, TMT Giants and the Triple K Stampers can get their packages from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The final time slot, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., is for players from the University of The Bahamas Mingoes, Uptown Cuts Specialists and the Your Essential Store Giants.
All referees and officials can pick up their packages between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The association plans to adhere to the social distancing rules, as persons can stay in their cars and collect packages via drive-thru.
The NPBA season came to an abrupt halt back in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The association was in the semi-finals series for both divisions.
