A man was stabbed to death during an altercation with two other men on McQuay Street, off Nassau Street on Tuesday evening, police said.
Family members identified the victim as Jeffrey Fowler, the father of a teen girl.
Chief Superintendent Shanta Knowles said police are following several leads and are confident they will quickly solve the matter soon.
Fowler’s cousin, Charlotte Williams, said she understands that her cousin was ganged. She added that her family was shocked by Fowler’s death as he was not a troublemaker.
“He is a family man,” she said. “He never used to bother.”
She said Fowler is a school janitor in his early 40s.
“It’s really gonna be hard,” she added.
“You can understand if someone is a troublemaker and they deserve what they get. They say if you live by the sword, you die by the sword, but if a person didn’t live by the sword, but died by the sword, you have a problem with that.
“He isn’t even a fighting person… I am more of a little fighter than he was. He was humble.”
Knowles encouraged members of the public to find healthier ways to resolve their differences.
Fowler was the second person murdered on New Providence today.
A 17-year-old male was shot dead in Fox Hill around 8 a.m.
Knowles said there is nothing to suggest that this matter is related to that murder.
“At this point, we can say that this is domestic,” she said referring to the stabbing. “These persons knew each other. Whatever the dispute was ended in someone losing [his] life.”
