The University of The Bahamas (UB) Mingoes had many opportunities to come back in their match against United Football Club (FC) on Sunday but just could not find the back of the net. The Mingoes dropped a hurtful 2-0 loss to United FC in Bahamas Football Association (BFA) action at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Field.
United started the match strong, scoring within the first three minutes. Jean Herard Fils-Aime connected to put them up 1-0.
The Mingoes’ defensive strength showed, aided by 10 saves from goalie Aaron Munnings. They went into the half down 1-0.
In the second half, United applied a lot of pressure on the Mingoes’ defense, scoring in the 56th minute on a goal from Kevron Hinds.
The Mingoes had eight shots on goal in the second half, but just could not find the back of the net.
United prevailed 2-0, dropping the winless Mingoes to 0-5. For United, it was their first win of the season as they improved to 1-5.
Mingoes Assistant Coach Harvey Munnings said the team just could not finish when it mattered.
“We’ve been having problems for the last four games trying to finish and putting the ball behind the net and that’s our biggest problem,” he said. “We had a lot of chances and opportunities in the first half and second half but like I said, again we just have problems finishing.”
He said he hopes the team can figure out a way to fix the problem of not being able to finish.
“One way we can fix that is practice, and maybe if we get a win that’ll probably help them with their courage,” he said. “We just need somebody to score and I think confidence as well. That’s all we need, confidence – for them to believe in themselves that they can do it.”
The Mingoes play again on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. when they take on the Western Gladiators at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Field.
