Three days after a man was found partially buried in a shallow grave in the yard of a Garden Hills home, his son was charged with the murder.
Police alleged that Selvyn Seymour, 24, killed his father, Dwight Seymour, on March 24.
Selvyn Seymour, who remained stoic during the arraignment, was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge when he made his initial appearance before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt this afternoon.
Police said the body was buried about 50 feet from the back of the house.
During the arraignment, Seymour’s attorney asked that the court to order that his client get a psychological evaluation because he had a history of psychological issues.
Cargill also told the court that Seymour has several matters pending in the Supreme Court.
However, Ferguson-Pratt told Cargill that she could not remand Seymour to Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre as there was a moratorium at the facility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The chief magistrate said she would instead order that Seymour receive a psychological evaluation as soon as possible at The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
Seymour returns to court on May 27th for the case to be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment.
