Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis will travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, today to attend the 31st Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Cabinet Office announced yesterday.
Minnis will lead a delegation of senior government officials to the two-day meeting, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield, Bahamas Ambassador to CARICOM States Reuben Rahming and Bains and Grants Town MP Travis Robinson.
Discussions on the meeting’s agenda include security, blacklisting and border issues.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will address CARICOM leaders as a special guest.
Minnis will meet with Trudeau on the margins of the meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest to The Bahamas and Canada.
Inter-Sessional meetings allow conference heads and other stakeholders to discuss progress made and challenges faced on matters of mutual interest related to CARICOM, and serve as an opportunity to engage representatives from the international community and civil society.
The 31st Inter-Sessional Meeting will be chaired by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who assumed chairmanship of the conference for the six-month period commencing January 1, 2020.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest will act as prime minister in Minnis’ absence.
Minnis is set to return to The Bahamas on Thursday.
