A magistrate has dismissed the case against a 40-year-old man accused of stealing 55 FNM posters during the recent general election campaign.
Matthew Sandilands appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville on December 1 for the start of his trial.
However, the case did not begin. Sergeant Kenny Thompson offered no evidence against Sandilands after he informed the court that former Mount Moriah MP Marvin Dames no longer wanted to pursue the case.
Sandilands had been accused of stealing 55 “It’s About your Future” posters valued at $495 between August 20 and 22.
Police arrested Sandilands shortly after then-National Security Minister Marvin Dames posted a video on Facebook about the alleged theft.
In the video, Dames alleged that a campaign worker for the PLP and others “took down all the FNM posters on Melvern Road” and replaced them with posters for the PLP candidate.
Sandilands was free on $500 bail pending his trial. Keod Smith represented him.
