Man attacked while seeking care at PMH

A patient at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) was attacked by two men in the trauma area of the Emergency Department on Saturday, the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) said yesterday.

The PHA said the victim, who was being treated for injuries, was attacked by another patient and an “uninjured man” at 1 a.m.

“The attackers were restrained by Emergency Department staff, RBDF officers deployed to the Emergency Department and hospital security officers, and two knives were confiscated,” PHA said.

The authority said no other patient or hospital staff were injured during the incident. The attacker was arrested.

The incident comes as PMH resumed a phased return to normal services after the third wave of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations forced the hospital to put a number of services on hold.
