Stop complaining and volunteer!

An old Chinese Proverb states, “Many hands make easy work.” As Bahamians, we should make it a point to leave this country better than we found it. If everyone chips in, one piece at a time, our lives and our country will be a better place. So if you are one of those persons that sit down and whine about everything that is wrong with this country, I will advise you to find something good you can do about it.

You can join a church group, or even a service club, as there are a lot of service clubs looking for help. Rotary is a premier service club that does so many good things. When disaster strikes our country, they are the first boots on the ground getting things done; using their resources and their contacts worldwide to help out. Even in other countries, like Haiti, if something happens Rotarians are on the ground helping our brothers and sisters out.

Other clubs like Kiwanis, Lions and Zonta, do similar things to chip in. This is a classic case of many hands make easy work. You may not be able to change the world by yourself, but through a group of people you can definitely get it done. And for our young boys, especially those who need fathers, create your own club. Join the Boy Scouts, become a volunteer for the Red Cross or Salvation Army, volunteers are needed. If you’re looking for things to do, there are so many things in the world that will allow you to render service. Just put your hands up and say I volunteer! Trust me, you will feel a lot better at the end of the day, as you are making a difference in people’s lives.

Whether it be an elderly person or a young man who needs a father figure, I encourage you to join the governor general’s volunteering call to action. Just help out, we all need it. At some point someone helped you! It’s really your time to give a helping hand to somebody else. The young kids need our help, join a service club, join a church group, or even join the Boy Scouts. Whatever you do, just join something. Instead of whining and complaining you can make a big difference in somebody’s live. Trust me, you will be happy you did.
