Three men whose arrests at Arawak Cay made the news following allegations of police brutality have been convicted.
Police arrested Stefone Cartwright, 24, Joshua Cartwright, 19, and Charles Butler, 27, on February 28 after a scuffle at Arawak Cay.
They were taken to the Fort Charlotte Police Station across the street, where the men alleged that they were beaten by police officers.
Butler recorded the alleged assault on his Apple watch, and the officer in charge of the station took early retirement.
A lawsuit was filed over the alleged beating.
On Friday, Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis convicted Stefone Cartwright of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, obscene language, and disorderly behavior. Butler pleaded guilty to the same offenses and Joshua Cartwright was convicted of disorderly behavior and obscene language.
He placed them on probation for one year. Stefone Cartwright and Butler will have to pay fines of $500 or one month in prison if they get into trouble during the probationary period while Joshua Cartwright will have to pay a fine of $200 or one month in prison.
Craig Butler represented his nephew and Stanley Rolle represented the Cartwrights.
Sergeant Kendrick Bauld prosecuted.
