Bahamian collegiate players Franco Miller Jr. and Radshad Davis were in action earlier this week for their respective teams in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division (DI) men’s basketball.
Miller took to the court on Wednesday night for the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Eagles (1-1) who lost to the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls (2-2), 76-57, at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. Davis saw action for the Florida International University (FIU) Panthers on Tuesday night in a 96-76 win for his team over the Central Michigan University Chippewas at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Miami, Florida.
Miller finished his game with 10 points in 21 minutes of play. The guard drilled all three of his made field goals from deep. He finished the game 3-for-10 from the field, shooting 30 percent. The Grand Bahamian also split a pair of free throws and pulled down two rebounds.
It was not the start the Eagles envisioned for this game, as the Bulls took a 16-point lead with 13:17 remaining in the first half. The score was 23-7 at that point.
The redshirt junior’s first three-pointer was made during a 7-0 scoring run by the Eagles that decreased the Bulls lead to nine points, 23-14 with 10:59 left in the first half.
The Eagles never got closer than nine points for the rest of the game. The Bulls proved to be too efficient for the Eagles.
Over in Miami on Tuesday night, Davis had a quiet game offensively as he scored just four points in a blowout win. Coming off a career-high 28 points on Friday afternoon, the redshirt senior finished just 2-for-6 from the field this time. On the glass, Davis was able to pull down five boards in 22 minutes of play.
It was a close game early in the first half. Davis and the Panthers started to pull away as they took their first double-digit lead of game, 37-26, with 2:13 left in the first half.
Davis did not get on the scoreboard until the 16:34 mark of the second half. His jumper put his team up 58-38. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way for the Panthers as they remained perfect on the 2020-2021 season.
The Panthers connected on 18 three-pointers, shooting 43.9 percent from deep.
Davis and the Panthers will welcome Jacksonville State University for two games this weekend. Today’s game is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Miami, and Sunday’s game will tip off at 2 p.m. at that same venue.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow night when they return home to play the Florida National University Conquistadors at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Florida. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
