The son of activist and talk show host Rodney Moncur was among 38 people who appeared in court on Wednesday accused of violating a nationwide lockdown.
Ronald Moncur, 39, of Heritage Road, pleaded not guilty to the charge of violation of lockdown at his arraignment before Magistrate Sandradee Gardiner.
Prosecutors say that Moncur was found at Florida Court, off East Street, around 8:05 p.m. on April 10.
The lockdown aimed at curbing the local transmission of COVID-19 came into effect on April 8 and expired at 5 a.m. on April 14.
Moncur has been freed on $2,000 bail pending his trial.
Police arrested Cordeirro Ferguson at 7:30 p.m. on April 13.
He said he was headed to his mother to pick up his clothing for work the following morning.
Ferguson admitted that he knew the lockdown was in effect when he left his home.
Gardiner fined him $450 or one month in prison.
A trip to his brother-in-law cost Jamal Davis $500.
Police arrested Derek Newton on April 10 at Derby Road.
Newton, who works at a water company, explained that he had worked a double shift on Wednesday before the country shut down.
He said he didn’t get a chance to shop for himself and his 62-year-old father.
Newton claimed that a friend had packed up some groceries so he could cook.
The magistrate appeared unfazed at his explanation. She said that his father could have taken advantage of reserved shopping times for seniors.
Newton was fined $600 or two months in prison.
