After spending a week in prison, a woman who forged prescriptions for narcotic painkillers was freed yesterday after paying a $2,500 fine.
Tietchka Vanderpool-Wallace, 54, of Paradise Island, was arrested on Saturday, February 29, after Livingston Seymour, 54, of Hospital Lane, attempted to fill the forged prescriptions in the name of Mable Turnquest at Centreville Pharmacy.
Had she not paid the fine, she would have served six months in prison.
Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans told Vanderpool-Wallace that she had made a “conscious decision” to break the law.
Vogt-Evans told the convict that she had the “power to make a difference” and the embarrassment of her arrest and conviction could possibly have been “the last straw”.
Police arrested Vanderpool-Wallace when she went to Wulff Road Police Station to check on Seymour and he identified her as the person who had given him the prescription.
Police found a Princess Margaret Hospital prescription pad when they searched Vanderpool-Wallace’s car, the prosecutor said.
Prosecutors on Monday dropped the charges against Seymour.
Her husband, son and brothers were in court to support her.
