Bahamian Alexander Turnquest, a member of The Bahamas’ water polo team that won three consecutive gold medals at the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships from 2017 to 2019, has chosen to play collegiately for the Connecticut College Camels in New London, Connecticut, United States.
The Camels compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. Turnquest is set to start in the fall of 2020.
The Bahamian water polo specialist was recruited by several schools and received scholarships from almost half of those schools. He chose Connecticut College after visiting the school during a recruitment drive last fall. He was very pleased with the program and the coaching philosophy of Head Coach Matt Anderson, and it is believed that it was at that point when he made his decision.
In 2018 and again in 2019, Turnquest participated in the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics, playing on the Houston Storm team. This experience helped prepare him for collegiate play. At Connecticut College, Turnquest will be joining fellow Storm teammate American Christian Jacobson.
Turnquest was also a member of the 2019 national team for The Bahamas that competed at the Junior Pan American Games. He is a 2020 graduate of Lyford Cay International School, and is the son of Dr. Theodore Turnquest and his wife.
