Nigerian accused of arriving with fake visa

A Nigerian man arrested at Lynden Pindling International Airport with a fake visa has been denied bail.

Onuwasaun Akinkunn traveled to New Providence on a Bahamasair flight from Havana, Cuba, on March 4. He was arrested after staff at the Bahamian Embassy in Cuba confirmed that the visa was fake.

Akinkunn initially pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a forged document and unlawful use of a forged document at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes yesterday. However, the magistrate entered not guilty pleas because Akinkunn insisted that he didn’t know the visa was a forgery. His trial is set for March 24.
