Meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) organizers are looking at Baha Mar to relocate their groups and conferences in the wake of the growing COVID-19 (coronavirus) threat in the United States, Baha Mar’s Director of Public Relations Vanessa Christie told Guardian Business yesterday.
Christie added that the resort has not had any conference cancellations due to concerns over the virus, which has not been detected in The Bahamas to date.
“Baha Mar has not seen any group or conference cancellations and due to countries and areas affected elsewhere, the resort has received inquiries and leads from companies planning to relocate their events to
The Bahamas,” Christie said.
She added that despite the frenzy related to COVID-19, the upcoming Spring Break season and Easter holiday continue to show robust numbers.
“The outlook at the resort destination is positive ahead of the busy Spring Break and Easter holidays, following an extremely strong first quarter in terms of occupancy across all three properties,” said Christie.
She added that Baha Mar continues to focus on its guest experience, “while rigorously enforcing the highest health standards and adhering to all mandates set forth by the Ministry of Health of The Bahamas”.
An Atlantis spokesperson said the resort has also fielded calls from meeting planners interested in moving their events to The Bahamas. The spokesperson added that Atlantis has not had any conference cancellations.
Website plasticsnews.com revealed that an upcoming annual meeting scheduled for April at Atlantis will go forward as planned. The website said the annual meeting is boasting its highest registration numbers ever.
“NAHAD’s (National Association for Hose and Accessories Distribution) annual meeting and convention, April 24-29 in The Bahamas, will continue as scheduled, according to a letter sent to members on March 2, Plastics News’ sister publication Rubber & Plastics News reported,” the site recounted.
According to the association’s letter, “The NAHAD office has been fielding calls from concerned members about the impact of coronavirus [on] the upcoming 2020 annual meeting to be held at Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas. NAHAD is actively monitoring updates provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the World Health Organization. Registration numbers are some of the highest NAHAD has ever seen and we look forward to welcoming you to The Bahamas.”
