A magistrate mourned the death of Cedric Thompson who was killed by police hours before his scheduled court appearance.
Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans said, “My heart is heavy this morning. Anytime anyone from my court dies, I am affected by it. God is great and He is gracious because he was expected to appear before me this morning with those two nines and that extra extended clip.”
Thompson, 75, of Francis Avenue, Fox Hill, was killed in a shootout with police after he pulled a gun on officers at the Fox Hill Police Station around 7 a.m. yesterday.
Thompson was at the station to sign in as a condition of his bail on a charge of use of grievous harm.
Prosecutors had accused the septuagenarian of permanently scarring a man by throwing muriatic acid on him on January 13, 2019.
Thompson’s alleged victim and two police officers were present for the continuation of the case.
Vogt-Evans will officially dismiss the matter once Thompson’s lawyer, Ian Cargill, produces a death certificate. The case has been adjourned to May 7.
