Marlins’ Bahamian Heritage celebration set for June 12 in Miami

The National Sports Authority (NSA) in partnership with the Miami Marlins professional baseball team, the Bahamas Consulate General (Miami) Office, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism & Aviation, the Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC), the Bahamas Baseball Association (BBA) and Bahamasair, invites Bahamians everywhere to be a part of the Bahamian Heritage celebration on June 12. This event, in honor of Bahamian Major League Baseball (MLB) player with the Marlins Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr., will take place at LoanDepot Park, in Miami, Florida, at 4:10 p.m. on June 12, when the Marlins host their National League East Division rival, Atlanta Braves.

Participating Bahamians will have the benefit of special airline packages from Bahamasair and Bahamian game ticket packages, which include a free “242 To The World” commemorative Marlins shirt.

The NSA and its partners are proud to support this event, which allows the talent and culture of The Bahamas to be showcased on a global stage.

“The benefits of such large scale national exposure is immeasurable, especially during a time in which we are welcoming the world to return to our shores,” said NSA Marketing Manager Jevone Williams.

For further information regarding special airline and game ticket packages, interested persons are asked to visit the NSA’s Facebook page.

“Our page connects you with all participating partners, ensuring that you receive all of the benefits associated with this Bahamian Heritage experience. Let us take ‘242 To The World’ and show the Miami Marlins and all of Major League Baseball how we celebrate our talent, culture and country,” said Williams.

Bahamians throughout Florida, the wider USA and The Bahamas are encouraged to bring their goatskin drums and flags to a special Bahamian Heritage celebratory game, which is expected to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of The Bahamas along with its close relationship with the community of Miami. The celebration will feature the pulsating and rhythmic music of The Bahamas, and a pregame Junkanoo rushout at 3 p.m., featuring The Bahamas Junkanoo Revue of Miami and legendary Junkanooers Quinton “Barabbas” Woodside, Langston Longley, Ronnie Sands and Pluckers Chipman.

The highlight of the game will be a special recognition of Marlins 23-year-old talented infielder Chisholm who is the first Bahamian player with the Marlins franchise and only the seventh Bahamian to play in Major League Baseball. A postgame celebration featuring popular Bahamian songs will be performed by the Bahamian Steel Band Delight group.

“As a destination, the islands of The Bahamas is known the world over for its sun, sand, sea and sports. Over the years, we have partnered with numerous elite sporting entities, whose players, families and friends have come to experience firsthand, our country’s idyllic beauty and warm hospitality. We remain resolved in our pursuit to ensuring that the unique and rich heritage of The Bahamas, through these partnerships, is heavily promoted and that The Bahamas is known as the premier destination for sports tourism in the Caribbean. Working so successfully with organizations like the Miami Marlins has helped us tremendously,” said Linda Mackey, Consul General, Bahamas Consulate General (Miami).

Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis along with other government dignitaries has been invited by the Marlins organization to participate in the event. Special promotional links have been created for the Bahamian diaspora to purchase tickets for the game and receive a “Bahamian Heritage Chisholm Jr. T-shirt” to be worn at the game. A

donation to the BBA and access to the pregame Junkanoo band and postgame Steel Band Delight performances are included in the promotional package. General game tickets do not grant attendees access to the exclusive Bahamian Heritage Celebration T-shirt.
