Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) is touting a first-of-its-kind bundle in The Bahamas that includes home and mobile products, with mobile family plans that include four lines.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer Andre Foster announced the program on Friday during a press conference at JWP at The Pointe, calling it fixed mobile convergence and explaining that it is now available for every home in The Bahamas.
Foster explained that while mobile family plans have been around in international mobile markets for a long time, bundling them with fixed services is where the industry is headed internationally. He explained that the important part of the new service is in the value proposition it brings to a home and a family with data sharing, roaming and fixed services on offer through the packages.
“This is a revolutionary leap into the future and a game changer for BTC, but most importantly our
customers,” Foster said.
“The convergence of fixed and mobile services is truly transformational for the country and represents our constant evolution as the country’s longstanding and only universal full-service entertainment and communications provider. This move is aligned with global industry standards, providing ultimate convenience, value and affordability.”
Foster explained that bundles include a two-mobile and four-mobile solution.
The “Plus 2” package includes two mobile numbers at $75 per line, while the “Plus 4” packages includes four mobile numbers at $50 per line.
Customers who sign up for packages also receive a free Samsung mobile device.
“The data allocations in the Plus bundles are quite significant – the Plus 2 bundle comes with 225 GB, shared across two mobile lines and 300 GB shared across three or four mobile lines with the Plus 4 bundle,” BTC revealed in a press statement.
“Plus bundle customers automatically receive the ‘roam like you’re home’ feature for all mobile lines included in the family plan. This feature allows customers to use their on-net plan allotment data and minutes in the US, Canada and other Flow markets as if they are at home in The Bahamas. All incoming calls are also free while roaming.”
Foster said BTC has been seeking ways to help Bahamians during the tough economic time caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The backbone of this achievement has been our commitment to enable progress and improve the quality of life for the Bahamian people,” said Foster. “By making large capital investments to roll out fiber to the home in more areas, more people throughout The Bahamas have access to the superior speeds and world-class services.
“As a critical part of our organizational strategy, we’ve committed to expanding our fiber footprint to reach more than half of households by the end of this year and eventually reaching the vast majority of Bahamians. While other providers’ maximum speed offering is 100 Mbps, BTC’s entry-level fiber plans begin at 100 Mbps and are less than 49 cents per Mbps, which is superior in value and pricing in comparison to our competitors.”
