Prior to Friday, it had been a rough week on the road for Bahamian Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr. and the Miami Marlins. All that changed over the weekend, as they were able to win their road series in Major League Baseball (MLB) against the Chicago Cubs. They won the first two games of the series before dropping the final one yesterday, 2-0, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Chisholm, who was the leadoff man, finished 1-for-4 at the plate on Sunday and now has a .264 batting average for the season. His only hit of the game came in the top of the fifth inning in his third at-bat. It was a single to left field on the seventh pitch of the at-bat. Chisholm had an 0-2 count but managed to work the count to 3-2. Chisholm was left stranded and the Marlins failed to score.
The Marlins managed to finish with six total hits in the game, and the loss puts them at a 31-40 win/loss record on the season. They sit at the bottom of the National League East Division.
The Cubs managed to score in the third and fifth innings, capitalizing off just four hits in the game.
Second baseman Chisholm was a part of two double plays on the afternoon. The first one came in the bottom of the fifth inning when shortstop Miguel Rojas threw the ball to him to get Joc Pederson out at second base before he threw it to Jesús Aguilar to get Kris Bryant out at first. The second one came the next inning when Chisholm started a double play when he threw the ball to Rojas to get Javier Baez out at second base. Anthony Rizzo was out at first as Rojas threw the ball to Aguilar.
On Saturday, Chisholm finished 2-for-4. He scored two runs and stole a base in a dominating 11-1 performance for the Marlins over the Cubs. He got his first hit in the first inning. Chisholm stole his 10th base of the season after that first hit. He ended up scoring the first run of the game on an Aguilar groundout in that game. At the end of the first inning, the Marlins led 3-0.
Chisholm was walked in the top of the sixth inning. His second hit came in the top of the eighth inning. It was a single to center field. He came home when Lewin Diaz homered in that inning. The Marlins brought their bats out in this game as they finished the game with 11 hits and 11 runs. They managed to score in every inning except the fourth and ninth innings.
On Friday, Chisholm went 0-for-4 and was walked once. He was able to finish with one run scored. The Marlins clobbered the Cubs 10-2 in that opening game of the series. Chisholm finished the series 3-for-12 to go with three runs. He was walked twice and stole one base.
Chisholm is looking to be voted into the 2021 MLB All-Star Game. The second return on the vote is set to be released today. Fans can vote for him five times per day, every 24 hours, at https://ift.tt/3q8BUEU. Voting ends on June 24.
The Marlins will head back home to play a two-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida. That series will get underway tomorrow and continue on Wednesday. Both games will start at 7:10 p.m.
