Virgin Atlantic to begin London to Bahamas route in November

Virgin Atlantic will be launching a London to The Bahamas route, with flights twice per week beginning in November, it recently announced in a press statement.

The airline will join British Airways in linking The Bahamas to Europe and its tickets, which could start at about $900, go on sale beginning August 11.

“With 16 major islands surrounded by the world’s clearest waters, The Bahamas is an unrivaled destination boasting beautiful white sand beaches, sailing adventures, fishing and diving as well as Exuma’s world-famous swimming pigs,” the company’s press statement noted.

Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Commercial Officer Juha Jarvinen said the company is excited to add The Bahamas to its expanding Caribbean portfolio.

“We are seeing a real demand from our customers for luxury holidays in the sun, with Brits keen to escape on their next adventure after a difficult year,” Jarvinen said.

“As we head into winter 2021, we look forward to expanding our Caribbean portfolio from six islands up to eight and we are incredibly excited to welcome customers onboard flying to our destinations both old and new, heading off on holiday or traveling to visit loved ones.”

The company added it is also expanding its services to Barbados, with five flights per week from Manchester, England, and 11 per week from Heathrow Airport.

“Virgin Atlantic is currently flying to Barbados, Antigua, Jamaica and Grenada and expects to restart Tobago and Havana, Cuba in the upcoming months,” the statement noted.

“The airline also recently announced the first direct service from Europe to St. Vincent and the Grenadines that will begin in October 2021.”

Virgin was to also add a sea component to its offerings to The Bahamas, as its first cruise ship the Scarlet Lady was slated to sail in the region when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down global cruising. However, those plans have been shelved and the ship is currently sailing itineraries out of England.
