Munroe moves up to 26 on Angels’ top-30 prospect list

Grand Bahama native Kristin Munroe signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels organization in May of this year, and wasted no time moving up the charts. He is now listed at number 26 on the Angels’ top-30 prospect list. The list was updated late last week.

Another Bahamian moving into the top 30 was Miami Marlins’ second baseman Ian Lewis who is ranked at number 29.

Munroe has played in 10 games in the Dominican Summer League (DSL). The infielder, who switches between shortstop and third base, has a batting averaging of .207. He has an on-base percentage (OBP) of .378 and a slugging percentage (SLG) of .276. He has an on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of .654. Munroe has six hits in 28 at-bats and has scored eight runs. In addition, he has five runs batted in (RBIs) and stole four bases.

The 17-year-old helped the DSL Angels to a 15-11 win/loss record, sitting in second place in the DSL South Division.

Lewis, who signed with the Marlins in July 2019, is also seeing his first action in Minor League Baseball this year. The 2020 season was canceled because of the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lewis is making the most out of the opportunity in the Florida Complex League (FCL). He has a batting average of .267 in 30 games. He is 28-for-105 and has scored 19 runs. Lewis was able to hit three home-runs and has added seven doubles and four triples. He has 20 RBIs and has stolen four bases.

The 18-year-old has an OBP of .325, a SLG of .495 and an OPS of .820. On Friday night, he finished 3-for-5, had one RBI and a run scored against the FCL Mets. His team, the FCL Marlins, lost 7-4 after being up 3-1 at the end of the third inning.

The FCL Marlins sport a 16-19 record and have lost two straight games.

D’Shawn Knowles is ranked at number 11 on the Angels’ prospect list. Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfielder Kristian Robinson has not played all season and has slid down to number eight on their list.

All of the Bahamian players will look to move up the rankings for their respective teams as their respective seasons continue.
