The Bahamas will receive 128,700 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow afternoon, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis announced in the House of Assembly today.
Minnis said the doses are a donation from the United States government.
“This 128,700 doses of the vaccine represents the first tranche of the total 397,000 doses that we would receive from the government of the United States of America. I thank the U.S. government for this generous donation,” Minnis said.
The prime minister added, “It is important to note that the Pfizer vaccine will also be available to 12 to 17-year-olds with the consent of a parent or guardian.”
Last month, the United States government also donated U.S. ultra-low temperature freezers for vaccine storage to Ministry of Health of The Bahamas.
The four freezers can store over 168,000 vaccine doses.
“Along with the doses we will receive tomorrow, the vaccine supply we have already received and others on the way over the next weeks and months, we will have the capacity to vaccinate all Bahamians and residents who wish to receive the vaccine,” Minnis said today.
