Margaritaville welcomes first guests, expects strong numbers mid-August

Margaritaville’s first guests entered the hotel’s lobby on Saturday to thunderous applause by staff. More guests were expected to arrive later in the afternoon, marking the beginning of a busy slow season for the newest hotel in Nassau.

Margaritaville at The Pointe is expecting booking numbers to ramp up by the middle of this month and into September, its General Manager Larry Magor told Guardian Business on Saturday.

Those months, which are typically the slow season for the tourism industry, will be busy for the hotel if the strength of forward bookings hold. According to Magor, the hotel will be in full swing by the end of the year, the same time its pier restaurant is slate to be completed.

“We anticipate seeing a significant bit of business mid-August and going into September,” Magor said.

“Regardless of what’s happening with the hurricane season, there seems to be so much pent up demand for The Bahamas right now, it doesn’t matter where you go, it’s busy everywhere.”

Magor said almost every part of the operation is functioning now that the hotel is officially open. He explained that guests from the neighboring Pointe property One Particular Harbour were enjoying Margaritaville’s water park and other amenities before the first guests arrived on Saturday. 

“The water park the other day was packed with guests from One Particular Harbour, so now that we’ve got guests checking in to this building, we anticipate it becoming even more active,” Magor said.

David Kennoy, one of a family of four from Scranton, Pennsylvania who were the first to check in to Margaritaville, said they chose the property because of their love for Jimmy Buffet, who is the owner of the Margaritaville brand.

Kennoy said this is the family’s first stopover visit to The Bahamas and they are looking forward to “the fantastic two-bedroom suite, the beach, good food and good drinks”.

Magor said The Pointe’s marina and JWB steakhouse have been receiving a lot of bookings and are expected to keep a good pace into the end of the year.

Magor added that the hotel is now working on getting more of its staff vaccinated and have put incentives in place to encourage the process.
