Dear Editor,
Please allow me an opportunity to comment on the prime minister’s call for fair play in the global financial arena while addressing the United Nations (UN).
The prime minister’s arguments firstly speak to The Bahamas not being able to leverage the funding and economic assistance for the COVID-19 crisis available through the UN because The Bahamas is assessed as a wealthy country utilizing “inadequate and improper tools”.
His second argument is that the development of a “vulnerable index” should be a top priority to better guide international financial institutions in offering assistance.
Well, Mr. Prime Minister, I agree with you. Fair play is required when countries deal with each other and most certainly when governments deal with citizens.
Where is the fair play by your government in dealing with the property owners of Corridor 41, the properties acquired for the New Providence Road Improvement Project for the extension of Milo Butler Highway to connect with Cowpen Road?
These properties were compulsorily acquired by the first FNM government you participated in as minister of health from 2007 to 2012.
In 2015, the government and I agreed on a price for my acquired property. To date, five years later, I have yet to receive my settlement.
You are asking for fair play. Show me fair play in my settlement. You rightly want fair play for The Bahamas from the international community. I rightly and legally deserve fair play from you with my payment.
Remember, action speaks louder than words, and as my parents taught me, do not ask others to do anything that you are not willing to do.
