The Island House (TIH) will celebrate a return to a sense of normality and launch into the “new normal” by hosting special music sessions throughout the weekend, and they’re kicking off with the incomparable Jazz Cats, led by Adrian D’Aguilar.
“We thought we’d kick off the weekends with a little bit of music as people come and join us for dinner,” said Anja Allen, marketing and sales representative at The Island House, which is opening all of its outdoor spaces as of today for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
“It’s all about coming and dining and enjoying, and there will be live music to entertain you,” said Allen.
“The Jazz Cats, led by Adrian D’Aguilar, are usually our regulars every Thursday night at our Unwinding Hour, so we thought we’d kick off the weekends with a little bit of music around the pool as people come and join us for dinner.”
The Jazz Cats will perform for two hours between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
“We’re giving people a reason to get out of the house, as well as enjoy the delicious food we always have.”
Allen said reception for their launch weekend has been overwhelming.
Whether patrons dine at Shima, Mahogany House or The Coffee Bar, where they can order from the Shima menu – no matter where they sit, they will be able to enjoy the sounds of the Jazz Cats.
And you don’t have to book dinner to enjoy the hauntingly beautiful jazz sounds of the Jazz Cats, as space has been made available poolside for those who just want to get out of house, have a drink, sit in the open air and enjoy a beautiful sunset and live jazz, as the country comes out of three months of lockdowns and curfews as the world battles to contain the spread of COVID-19.
While many restaurants that can accommodate outdoor dining will open this weekend in the “new normal” for the first time, that has not been the case for The Island House and its dining outposts. The hotel property has had guests in-residence throughout the period and remained open for them, which meant they were able to offer takeout to the local community as a result.
While Allen said that yesterday they were in a last-minute scramble to get things ready for today, moving tables to get as much space available for everyone, she said what they have to do made for smaller steps in comparison to other places that had been closed for the duration.
But they do request diners pre-book tables for Shima and Mahogany House by calling or emailing in advance as every reservation has to be confirmed, as they won’t have a lot of space to accommodate walk-ins other than at The Coffee Bar for breakfast and lunch. Those people just wanting to listen to the Jazz Cats and enjoy a libation, are free to walk in, no reservations required.
In the “new normal” with safety first and foremost for patrons and TIH colleagues, patrons are asked to wear protective masks when arriving on property. Before entering The Island House, a member of its security team will take everyone’s temperature with a non-touch thermometer; they are asking anyone feeling unwell to stay at home. All TIH colleagues, they say, will also be wearing masks. Once seated at their table, which will be limited to six people, patrons may remove their mask, but are asked to exercise caution and social distancing to protect themselves and others.
Hand sanitizing stations have also been dotted across TIH for patrons to sanitize upon entering, and as frequently as they wish. TIH officials also remind patrons that social distancing is key and that their outdoor seating has been rearranged to provide a safe distance to neighboring tables. They will also be staggering reservation slot allocations to ensure groups do not arrive at the same time. TIH assures patrons that they have increased the sanitization and cleaning of all high-contact surfaces to an hourly rotation, and the entire property, inclusive of the back-of-house, is deep-cleaned on a nightly basis.
