Atlantis develops health, cleanliness protocols with Cleveland Clinic

The Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

Atlantis Paradise Island announced yesterday that it worked with Cleveland Clinic to develop “the next level of global hospitality cleanliness standards, operational norms and behaviors” for the resort, as it begins its phase one opening next month, which will include the opening of its casino and the Aquaventure waterpark.

According to a statement, the property will be available for weddings, groups and meetings when it opens its Royal Towers and Harborside Resort on July 7 and The Cove on July 14.

Atlantis’ President and Managing Director Audrey Oswell said the company committed to working with global health experts to ensure the resort is a safe and healthy environment, as the world continues to battle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and economies begin opening up after months of being shut down.

According to Atlantis’ statement, Cleveland Clinic assisted in developing the new health and safety standards for the resort’s “Clean and Safe Promise” initiative.

“We’re thrilled to welcome guests and team members back to Atlantis,” said Oswell.

“Nothing matters more than the health, safety, and well-being of our guests, team members and the local community. The Atlantis Clean and Safe Promise is our commitment to working with global health experts to provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone who enters our doors. We can’t wait for guests to join us again for the unforgettable Bahamian experience that sets Atlantis apart as the most remarkable destination resort in the world.”

Atlantis noted that its “Clean and Safe Promise” means its cleaning and sanitization will meet or exceed operational standards, and it added that the Ministry of Health has reported no active cases of COVID-19 on Paradise Island.

Atlantis said with physical distancing and enhanced cleaning protocols in place, the amenities that will be reopened include the Atlantis Casino, 20 of its indoor and outdoor dining outlets, beaches, pools, non-motorized sports, golf, tennis, its fitness center, Mandara Spa, Aquaventure slides, Dolphin Cay and The Dig.

Atlantis’ statement also revealed that the property is reopening with air and hotel packages, complimentary nights and resort credits on offer.

Cleveland Clinic’s Chief Clinical Transformation Officer Dr. James Merlino said in the statement that his organization has spent months understanding and containing COVID-19.

“We are applying our knowledge and innovative approaches to the resort setting to help keep people healthy,” Merlino said.

“We are pleased to partner with Atlantis to help create a healthy and safe resort environment.”

Medical Director of Atlantis Dr. Theodore Turnquest said in the statement that Atlantis has “reimagined every aspect” of its experience “to ensure the highest levels of disease prevention, protection, and response”.

According to Atlantis’ new protocols, guests will be encouraged to self-screen before arriving; expedite their check-in process using their smartphone; and are “strongly encouraged” to wear masks in all indoor public areas throughout the resort.

“In certain instances, such as riding in elevators and playing at casino table games, masks will be required,” Atlantis’ statement noted.

Team members, contractors and suppliers will be required to wear masks while on the property and there will be daily screening and temperature scans before entering the property.
