While multiple resorts throughout the country have announced delayed reopening plans, Breezes Bahamas said yesterday it intends to reopen its property to guests on July 1 when the tourism sector opens.
Breezes will be the only large resort on the Cable Beach strip reopening next month, when the country’s borders open to commercial flights.
Breezes Bahamas Chairman John Issa said in a statement that the resort has redefined its customer experience based on new protocols designed to ensure the safety of both guests and team members.
“This plan complements the measures that will be carried out under the Ministry of Tourism’s Clean and Pristine guidelines,” he said.
Like most hotels in the country, Breezes was forced to close its doors when Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis declared a state of emergency in March and closed the country’s borders.
As a part of the country’s reopening plan, the Ministry of Tourism has compiled an extensive list of protocols for hotels, restaurants and vendors in the tourism industry.
“Each department has its own set of protocols appropriate to its operation. As guests enter the resort, they will immediately notice the safety screens at the front desk and the decals on the lobby floor, ensuring safe distancing. The main dining room is integral to Breezes’ guest experience, and measures have been taken to protect the guests and team members,” the statement pointed out.
“Seating has been reduced as tables have been set further apart. The specialty restaurants will be closed initially, but their menu items will be served on varying days in the main dining room. Bedrooms will undergo even greater cleaning and sanitizing, not only prior to the arrival of guests but during their stay. Frequently handled items, such as television remote controls, telephones, handles, doors, etc. will be disinfected daily if the guest requests these housekeeping services.”
Given that many global travel restrictions are still in effect and global travel as a whole is on the decline due to the pandemic, Breezes said it anticipates low occupancy numbers when it reopens and employees would be recalled to work as occupancy increases.
Last week, resort properties Baha Mar and Melia Nassau Beach announced they were postponing their reopening dates to October 2020.
Sandals Royal Bahamian has also postponed its reopening to November this year.
