Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction Carl Smith promised to release the information the ministry has “in hand” on the pledges made during a Hurricane Dorian pledge drive in January.
Nearly six months ago, officials promised to release a breakdown of the pledges made during the conference.
The government said it received $1.5 billion in pledges for Hurricane Dorian relief during the conference.
The lion’s share was a $975 million loan offer from The P3 Group, Inc., a U.S. company.
“We have been following up with those agencies that have pledged, and come Tuesday, after the public holiday, I make a commitment from the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction to share with the media, the public, the summary that we have up to date in terms of the funding that we have in hand and the funding that remains outstanding from the various agencies,” Smith said on Sunday.
“We have transparency.”
The pledges include technical assistance, intellectual assistance, concessionary loans, equity, grants and guarantee financing.
In February, Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness Iram Lewis said the government was set to meet with the representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to finalize a breakdown of the pledges from the conference.
“We’re meeting with the UNDP this week,” he said on February 3.
“The report is being compiled, finalized.
“So, I’m hoping this week.
“I have to meet with the minister of finance because it’s a part of his ministry. Yeah, we are still going through the process of compiling our report.”
