Fox struggles in 6-4 loss to Saints

Bahamian professional baseball player Lucius Fox Jr. and his Omaha Storm Chasers struggled in the 6-4 loss to the St. Paul Saints at Werner Park in Papillion, Nebraska yesterday in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) action.

The leadoff batter was unable to get a hit in this game as he went 0-for-6 in the game. He was struck out three times as he attempted to get out of his July slump that has him 5-for-37 at the plate. On the season he has a batting average of .194.

He connected on the pitch in his first at-bat in the first inning, but it was a groundout to first baseman Damek Tomscha. After the first inning, the game was tied at one run.

The score remained the same until the sixth inning, when the visitors took a 3-2 lead. At the end of the ninth inning, the score was tied at four runs and needed an extra inning to determine a winner.

After the Saints went up 6-4 at the top of the 10th inning, Fox was the third batter for his Chasers in the bottom of that inning. With the Chasers having one out and a man on base, the Kansas City prospect had a 1-2 count but was struck out on a foul tip on the next pitch.

The Chasers were unable to register a run in the 10th inning as the Saints won the game.

Although his team lost the first game in their six-game series against the Saints, they are still 3.5 games ahead of the second-place team in the Triple-A East’s Midwest Division, where they have a 40-25 win-loss record for the season.

Fox will have a chance to snap his three-game hitless streak tonight in the second game in the series. That game gets underway at 7:05 p.m. local time.

For the Chasers this season, Fox has an on-base percentage of .325 and a slugging percentage of .242.

Other Bahamian MiLB players were in action last night, but scores were not available at press time. New York Mets prospect Warren Saunders was in action for his St. Lucie Mets in the Low A. They were up against the Bradenton Marauders. Texas Rangers’ prospect Keithron Moss saw some time for his Down East Wood Ducks. They took on the Carolina Mudcats. D’Shawn Knowles was coming off a 3-for-6 performance at the plate for his Inland Empire 66ers. The Los Angeles Angels prospect faced the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Toronto prospect Chavez Young was in Double-A action last night for his New Hampshire Fisher Cats. They faced the Reading Fightin Phils.
