BTC hosts ‘For the Culture’ virtual clash

Sweet Emily versus Veronica Bishop and Dillon “D-Mac” McKenzie versus Eugene “Geno D.” Davis, respectively, are expected to next go head-to-head in the newly launched BTC web series, dubbed “For the Culture” – a virtual clash that showcases six Bahamian artists showcasing their top recording hits.

Sweet Emily and Veronica Bishop are set for Wednesday, October 14, with D-Mac and Geno D. scheduled for Wednesday, October 28.

McKenzie is excited for the opportunity to perform, showcase their songs and let people know Bahamian artists are still doing their thing and give them a taste of normalcy.

He said he likes what “For the Culture” stands for – a representation of putting two cultural giants together to showcase their work.

The friendly virtual battles were kickstarted by Bodine versus Wendi for the inaugural show that aired on BTC’s Instagram page, MyBTC, on September 30.

Bodine said “For the Culture” gives local artists and musicians the opportunity to show off the best of The Bahamas to the world.

“Viewers experienced a performance like none other from two of the top female artistes in the country across all genres.”

Wendi said she had a great time showcasing her talent to Bahamian people, considering artists have not had a platform to connect with fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I was really honored to [have been] chosen by BTC to kick off the first battle in this exciting series,” said Wendi.

The BTC virtual clashes are similar to the Verzuz series, the brainchild of award-winning producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland. The digital series sees two artists with similar musical styles team up for a friendly head-to-head battle. It is marketed as a contest, but is more so a celebration of their musical catalogs, an outlet to highlight throwback tunes and a way to bring people together.

Garry Sinclair, BTC CEO, said the virtual clash was realized after their marketing team put out a poll asking fans and followers to vote on whether or not they would like to see a local version of the international event. He said the response was overwhelmingly positive.

“We believe that this event demonstrates our commitment to the expansion of Bahamian culture and we invite everyone to tune in,” said Sinclair.

Fans have a chance to win a smart television by participating in the live top-up and win promotion during the shows. Once customers top up a minimum of $15 during the show, they will be eligible to win.
