Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line announced in a statement on Friday that it plans to resume sailing to Grand Bahama on December 18, with its ship at 60 percent of its capacity.
The company stated it would announce its return to Nassau at a later date.
The cruise line’s Chief Executive Officer Oneil Khosa said in the statement that his company is pleased with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) decision to lift its no sail order at the end of October.
“The past few months have been an incredible challenge for the cruise industry at large and we’re thrilled to welcome our guests aboard for what we know is a much-needed getaway to Grand Bahama Island,” Khosa said.
He added that the company made the decision to resume sailing to Grand Bahama aboard its Grand Classica ship because it allows for more space for guests and crew to be physically distant while onboard, with only 60 percent of the ship occupied.
He explained in the statement that the ship features larger deck space and almost 100 fewer staterooms than its sister ship the Grand Celebration.
“The guest-to-space ratio onboard the Grand Classica is one of the highest in its class and rivals many of our contemporary peers,” Khosa said.
“While we are eager to return to sea, the overall health and safety of our guests and crew remain our top priority.
“This change, coupled with a capped capacity of 60 percent, will further ensure that our guests and crew members can easily maintain required social distancing onboard.”
According to Khosa, the company continues to be one of the only cruise companies to have no cases of the virus reported onboard its ships.
He added that Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line continues to work closely with the CDC, the World Health Organization and the Bahamian government on its resumption of sailing to Grand Bahama.
“We appreciate the unwavering support and patience of our partners and crew during this challenging time and we look forward to welcoming guests back onboard soon,” he said.
“We have also followed all required guidelines, including adhering to strict requirements for our onboard crew members and installing the best safety protocols in the industry across our fleet to protect our guests and crew, who are always our top priority.”
