The Ministry of Health last night reported an additional 194 cases of COVID-19 in The Bahamas, adding to the 28 cases reported yesterday morning.
The 28 cases represented cases confirmed on Tuesday. Of those cases, 27 were confirmed on New Providence and one on Eleuthera.
Of the 194 cases reported last night, 172 were New Providence cases, one a Grand Bahama case, one an Andros case and the locations of 20 were pending.
The high case count was anticipated after health officials said the holiday weekend led to delayed reporting from private laboratories.
The Ministry of Health said, “…The 194 additional COVID-19 cases today is an additive effect of the cases recorded and reported during the period October 7-13, 2020.”
Officials confirmed the death of a 46-year-old woman of New Providence, who died on Monday; the death of a 51-year-old man of New Providence, who died on Tuesday, and the deaths of a 79-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man of New Providence, who both died yesterday.
These increased the death toll to 112.
Officials also confirmed two additional non-COVID-related deaths and one more death under investigation.
There have been 22 non-COVID-related deaths. Fifteen deaths are under investigation.
The new numbers drive the total number of cases reported since March to 5,385. New Providence recorded 4,136 of those cases.
There have been 3,178 recovered cases and 2,058 cases are active.
Officials also reported that 112 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. There have been 25,585 tests completed.
