Two new deaths

Two more people have died from COVID-19 in The Bahamas, bringing the total number of deaths to 29, according to the Ministry of Health.

A 45-year-old New Providence woman died on Friday night and a 63-year-old New Providence woman died yesterday morning.

According to the Ministry of Health’s dashboard, which was released shortly before 1 a.m., 63 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Saturday.

Of the new cases, there were 28 on New Providence, seven on Abaco, six on Bimini, four on Acklins, four on Grand Bahama, two on Exuma, two on Crooked Island Acklins, one on Acklins and eight with locations that are still pending.

On Friday, the ministry confirmed 93 new cases of COVID-19 and four additional deaths.

The Ministry also confirmed one non-COVID-19 related death.

“A COVID-19 death is someone who has died as a direct result of COVID-19, and a non-COVID-19 death is someone who died because of another health condition even though they may have tested positive for COVID-19,” the ministry said.

The Bahamas recorded 11 deaths in April during the first wave of the virus. There were no reported deaths in May or June. There were three deaths in July.

The figures show that there are now 18 deaths in the second wave of the virus compared to the 11 in the first wave.

The ministry said more details regarding the recent deaths and other COVID-19 information will be provided during a press conference on Monday.

The Bahamas has recorded 1,703 cases of COVID-19 since March.
