155 cases between Friday and Saturday

The Bahamas recorded another 155 cases of COVID-19 between Friday and Saturday.

Health officials also reported that six people died from COVID-19 during that time.

There were 91 cases reported on New Providence; 23 on Grand Bahama; eight on Abaco; five on Acklins; three on Inagua; one on the Berry Islands; six on Bimini; two on Exuma; two on Crooked Island; and the locations of 14 cases are listed as pending.

The Ministry of Health’s dashboard for Sunday was not available up to press time.

On Saturday, The Bahamas saw 62 cases — 28 on New Providence; four on Grand Bahama; seven on Abaco; six on Bimini; four on Acklins; two on Exuma; two on Crooked Island; one on Inagua; and eight with pending locations.

The Saturday dashboard was released at 12:50 a.m. on Sunday.

On Friday, 93 cases were confirmed — 63 on New Providence; 19 on Grand Bahama; two on Inagua; one on the Berry Islands; one on Abaco; one on Acklins; and six with pending locations.

The total number of cases confirmed in the country since the start of the pandemic is 1,765.

Hospitalizations also rose to 83. There were 1,504 active cases and 227 recoveries.

In total, New Providence has recorded 1,041 total cases; Grand Bahama, 538; Bimini, 51 cases; Abaco, 52 cases; Berry Islands, 15 cases; Cat Island and Exuma both have eight cases; Inagua, Eleuthera and Acklins each have five cases; Crooked Island, two; Andros, one; and 34 cases have pending locations.

Cases in the country continue to surge since The Bahamas reopened on July 1.

Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is scheduled to hold a press conference today and it is widely speculated that he will announce a lockdown.

Last Monday, Minnis announced the implementation of an “immediate” seven-day total lockdown of New Providence, that saw food stores, gas stations, private pharmacies, water depots and other businesses closed.

However, following widespread rebuke of the aggressive measures and the threat of a possible tropical system impacting the country, Minnis lifted the measures.
