Bahamas Nurses Union (BNU) President Amancha Williams said a nurse working at Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) has died following exposure to COVID-19.
“She was exposed on the job and was left to care for herself like many of the nurses are doing today,” Williams said at a press conference in front of SRC.
“We say to this government, enough is totally enough. As of today, if things ain’t right, you can be assured that every nurse in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas will be sitting underneath the tree effective today.
“Prime minister, we’re tired. Minister of health, we’re tired.”
She said her union is still advocating for COVID testing of nurses.
Williams noted that testing for nurses can take seven to 10 days.
“Nurses are quarantined up to 14 days and still don’t know,” she said.
“…You’ve tested all the patients on the ward and you know their status but you still don’t know the nurses’ status.”
PHA Director of Communications Judy Terrell confirmed that a SRC nurse died yesterday.
She said the PHA will release a statement on the matter.
