A magistrate on Monday released two men without penalty who admitted to breaking the national curfew.
Police arrested Ahmad Ferguson and Ricardo Johnson at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, as they walked along Mount Royal Avenue.
Ferguson told the court that he was walking to his cousin’s home to collect his phone.
He said he needed the phone to call someone who had money for him, so that he could buy provisions.
Johnson was accompanying Ferguson.
Both men told Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Forbes that they had been furloughed from their jobs.
They faced fines up to $10,000 or 18 months in prison but were given an absolute discharge.
However, Ladon Stubbs wasn’t so fortunate. He was fined $500 or three months in prison.
Police arrested the tire repairman at 1:15 a.m. in the area of Carmichael Road and Allen Drive.
Stubbs said he was on his way home from his job at the tire shop.
According to Stubbs, he was exhausted, so he decided to pull on the side of the road for a nap.
Ruben Gilbert Jr. was given a conditional discharge for breaking the curfew.
Police found Gilbert in the middle of Family Street around 12:33 a.m. on August 21.
He told police his name was Rashad Clarke.
Gilbert admitted the curfew breach and deceit of a public officer charges when he appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain.
She ordered Gilbert to remain on good behavior for six months. He’ll spend 30 days in prison if he doesn’t.
