Family remanded to prison following gun and ammunition charge

A 30-year-old man broke down in tears after he failed to spare his mother from being remanded to prison on a gun charge.

Craig Deleveaux, 30, of Alexandria Boulevard, pleaded guilty to possession of a silver and black Pico .380 and five rounds of ammunition at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on Wednesday.

Police arrested Deleveaux, his brother, Shane Davis Jr., 27; his father, Shane Davis Sr., 55; their mother, Miriam Thompson, 51; and Ashley Robinson, 27, after they found the gun when they executed a search warrant at a home in Alexandria Boulevard on August 3.

Deleveaux told the magistrate, “I can’t let my mother go through this. She’s all that I have.”

As a result, Ferguson-Pratt said she couldn’t accept his plea because it wasn’t unequivocal.

Ferguson-Pratt told Thompson that her son was a “giant of a man,” as she recalled instances where children denied charges, resulting in their mothers’ remand to prison.

Ferguson-Pratt explained that even if she had accepted the guilty plea, there was no guarantee that the prosecution would drop the case against the other defendants.

Thompson’s younger son, Davis Jr., also intended to plead guilty.

Prior to the arraignment, his lawyer Krysta Mason-Smith, asked the court to accept a plea agreement where Davis Jr. would be fined.

However, Ferguson-Pratt said she was not prepared to impose a fine because of the serious nature of the charges.

As a result, Davis and the other defendants pleaded not guilty. They return to court today.
