Thirty-six new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in The Bahamas yesterday – 30 on New Providence and six on Grand Bahama.
Health officials did not provide the age or sex of any of the new cases.
There are 751 confirmed cases in The Bahamas.
New Providence now leads the country in recorded cases, with 342, followed by Grand Bahama with 336 confirmed cases.
Bimini has 32 cases; Moore’s Island, 10; Great Guana Cay, nine; Berry Islands, nine; Cat Cay, six; Cat Island, three; Exuma, three; and Abaco one.
According to the COVID-19 dashboard, hospitalizations decreased yesterday from 22 to 18.
So far, 91 people have recovered from COVID-19. Fourteen people have died, and there are 644 active cases.
As of last night, 4,704 tests were completed, according to health officials. These include tests conducted by private facilities.
Of the total cases in The Bahamas, 647 have been recorded since July 8, in what health officials have determined is the second wave of infections.
The surge came just over a week after the borders were opened for international travel.
In light of the drastic increase in cases, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis implemented a nationwide two-week lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
Grand Bahama is already under a two-week lockdown that ends on Friday.
