One new case of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health recorded one more confirmed COVID-19 case yesterday, bringing the total to 104.

The latest case is a 66-year-old man of New Providence who has a history of travel.

He has been hospitalized, according to the Ministry of Health.

Up to yesterday, there were 25 active cases of COVID-19 in the country: 82 on New Providence, 13 on Bimini, eight on Grand Bahama and one on Cat Cay.

There have been 68 recovered cases, 11 deaths and 2,294 tests completed. 

This is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 since June 6.

It came as the country saw its first weekend without a complete lockdown since the beginning of April and one day before the tourism industry is set to begin a phased reopening where tourists will gradually be allowed in. 

Case 104 is still being investigated by the Ministry of Health, a release by the ministry stated yesterday, and it continues to monitor the other active COVID-19 cases. 

“The Ministry of Health again wishes to remind individuals who have been advised to remain home in quarantine or isolation that they are expected to stay in their homes until the time of quarantine or isolation has ended,” it said.

“Kindly consider having a family member complete shopping errands for essential items. Following this advice is paramount to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

“Persons violating the quarantine protocols could face a $20,000 fine or up to five years’ imprisonment.”
