A magistrate has ordered that a woman, who failed to repay stolen money as part of her plea deal, be committed to prison.
Shukuanya Thompson, a former corporate services supervisor at the accounting firm HLB Galanis, admitted to doctoring books at HLB Galanis to show contractors were entitled to payments in 2016.
Thompson issued the checks in their names, and when they cashed them, they allegedly gave her some of the money.
The firm was contracted to manage payments from the $60 million loan from the National Insurance Board to facilitate a housing program under the former government.
As part of a plea agreement, Thompson was supposed to repay $179,557.06 in installments to avoid spending five years in prison.
Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis issued the warrant directing police to take Thompson straight to prison after learning that she had not been consistent with the repayment plan.
Inspector Lakisia Moss prosecuted.
